My cup of JOY!

Is there anything more Canadian than Tim Hortons?

As a brand new resident of this beautiful country, one of my earliest memories of Canada is getting a large double double and thinking to myself “how did they know how I like my coffee?” It was love at first sip, no pun intended. As i’m settling in and finding my own in this new home of mine, one thing that has remained a constant is my love for all things Tim Hortons – be it their coffees, their baked goods or even the occasional burger.

As with anything that catches my fancy, I did a lot of research on Tim Hortons. Here are a few facts about Timmy’. It started off as a burger place 55 years ago and gradually became the iconic coffee and donuts spot it is today. One of the founding partners was a Maple leaf’s player called…you guessed it Tim Horton. The first store opened in Hamilton, Ontario all the way back in 1964. Then in 2014 Burger King purchased Tim Hortons and the quality was affected adversely soon after. However today, Tim Hortons has a global presence with over 5000 stores across the world.

Tim Hortons is truly affordable. I have seen high ranking employees in three piece suits and workers in overalls holding the same cup of coffee, and neither one looked out of place holding it. As a marketer, the one thing that stands out about their brand is how seamlessly they are able to create brand recall without having to build their self importance.

Just like millions of Canadians Tim’s has become an integral part of my routine. It doesn’t feel like my day has started until I have my Tim Hortons double double coffee.

P.S. It’s my first attempt at blogging, please be kind. Cheers!

  1. I too was an immigrant to Canada. It’s a beautiful country and I love how your blog revolves around multiculturalism. I like that you weave history into your posts. I think that’s something we lack as society. We love eating other country’s food but never take the time to appreciate their history and culture.

    You should try beaver tails!
